The Higg FEM is an environmental assessment tool developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) to evaluate the environmental impact of manufacturing facilities. It measures seven core operational areas: environmental management systems, energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, water use, wastewater, emissions to air, waste management, and chemical management. The logic is standardized performance tracking—enabling factories to quantify their environmental footprint year-over-year. Auditors verify self-assessment scores to help brands identify sustainability risks and lower carbon emissions.
